Experience Nature Like Never Before
Tips to Get the Most from Guided Walks at a Wildlife Safari Lodge
Almost everybody has experienced a game drive at least once in their lives, but how about a safari on foot? At our wildlife safari lodge, we offer walks through the bushveld, led by an experienced guide.
The best way to experience the African bush is on your own two legs. Smell the scents, hear the sounds, and see the sights of all that nature has to offer. Without the loud buzzing of a vehicle, you can get close to smaller animals.
What to Wear on Our Guided Walks
In an open vehicle, the colour of your clothes does not matter nearly as much as when you decide to engage in a bushveld hike. The animals mostly see the vehicle as a creature and not the individuals in it. However, while walking, you might want to consider leaving that hot pink blouse at home. Below is a list of what to bring on a wildlife safari hike:
How much you take away from the journey is entirely up to you. Having the right attitude plays an important part in determining whether you and your fellow hikers have a pleasant wildlife safari. Listen to the guide and be as quiet as possible. You do not want to scare the animals off and thereby miss your chance at getting a good picture. Do not forget about the plants either. The flora is a crucial part in the daily life of the animals. There is a lot of knowledge to be gained on a guided hike.
Be Prepared for Anything
With an experienced guide to lead the way, you know you are as safe as possible on the walk. However, if you are unprepared, the hike can be torture. Just imagine walking with sandals and getting grass stuck between your toes. With the wrong clothes and footwear, blisters are a guarantee, and you can expect to be uncomfortable throughout the hike. Make sure your apparel is comfortable and right for the situation. Remember to keep hydrated and protect your skin against sunburn.
Day and Night
Although you might think that because it is summer, there is no need for warm outfits, think again. In the bushveld, day and night temperature fluctuations can be expected. Take at least one set of winter wear, even if you visit our lodge in the warmer months. Of course, you can bring along something stunning to wear for the romantic dinner on your private deck or perhaps for the culinary feast at our wildlife safari lodge. You can get all dressed up for a night of African cuisine at our impressive lodge restaurant. Swimwear is another item you should have in your suitcase in case you want to cool off in the pool or simply laze away the time on a deck chair.
How to Spot the Wildlife
Earthy colours are best for camouflage in the bushveld. By being quiet and attentive, you do not startle the creatures, and it is less likely for them to run and hide. Try and be one with nature and keep your eyes wide open. While you may miss many creatures on a drive, with a hike, you get the opportunity to walk slowly and see every possible animal near you.
Do Not Ever Forget
The magnificent experience of a safari walk at a wildlife lodge is not something that simply slips your mind. However, taking enough pictures to help others get a glimpse of your holiday is essential. How else will they know what an unbelievable vacation you have experienced? This way, you can always open a photo album and daydream about the next time you visit our wildlife safari lodge.
