Game Viewing Limpopo
Splendid Bushveld Game Viewing For Gauteng Residents
If you are a nature lover that enjoys nothing more than a game viewing trip, Gauteng does not really offer you all that many options to indulge your passion.
The urban and developed areas in Gauteng do not have the natural diversity and abundant wildlife of the proper Bushveld and as such, you often have to travel well out of the city to get back in touch with nature. North is the direction to go if you want to be close to the spectacular Waterberg.
At the Foot of the Waterberg
Do not go too far north though, because for the best game viewing, Gauteng residents will find the perfect place in our safari lodge, hardly 150 km north of Pretoria. Another reason not to venture too far north is that you will eventually enter a malaria area and our lodge is still completely safe from this hazard. In any event, being 90 minutes from Pretoria places us ideally for a weekend breakaway that is in the heart of the Bushveld but not impossibly far from the city.
Your Typical Itinerary
You may probably have indulged in some game viewing on your way to our main gate, but first you have to check in and you will find our staff extremely friendly, as they await all our Gauteng guests with a welcome drink and fruit plate. Soon after registration, you will be shown to your luxury 5-star suite where you can unwind – a...
- telephone
- mini bar
- heater
- hairdryer
- fan
- in-room safe
- luxurious linen and
- an en-suite bathroom
...are all standard.
Included in our rates are late-afternoon canapés, which will be served in the restaurant, after which the included game drive will commence for some serious game viewing. Be sure to take along your binoculars and camera and perhaps also a jacket for the cool evening air as you watch a beautiful sunset unlike any you have seen in Gauteng. Darkness arrives with sundowners and the emergence of the nocturnal wildlife – always a highlight on our late-afternoon, early-evening game drives.
Our game viewing vehicle is an open Land Rover that affords you a safe and elevated vantage point for viewing the Bushveld wildlife you are unlikely to ever see in Gauteng. These include cheetah, civet cat, zebra, eland, kudu, caracal, wildebeest, giraffe, bush pig and many other types of small antelope. In addition to all this wildlife, you will find that our area is a bird lover's paradise where at least 300 African bird species are found, including the rare lizard buzzard and snake eagle.
The game viewing ends with pre-dinner drinks in the bar before dinner is served – a full 5-course Table D'hôte dinner that will enrapture you with its distinctive African style infused with Western influences. Dinner is accompanied by cigars, cognacs and the finest wines and served in an enclosed “boma” around a log fire.
Day 2 and 3
Early on Day 2, the game viewing recommences and the vehicle usually departs at 06h00, because early morning is an excellent time to view the awakening wildlife. Both these game drives are included in our rates for Gauteng residents and all our other visitors. You would be back at the lodge between 09h00 and 10h00, so you can lounge by the pool, request a spa treatment or go silhouette shooting. Alternatively, you can opt for a game of croquet or a stroll through the Gift Gallery.
Day 2 ends with another game viewing drive and Day 3 starts with more of the same, so if you are a Gauteng resident starved of Bushveld wildlife, you would treasure a stay at our lodge. Contact us.
